Angelica Meade is a student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science. She grew up in Northern California, splitting her summers and school years between two rural communities with deep roots in local and organic agriculture. Angelica realized the opportunity to become involved in transforming food systems after enrolling in courses with Professor Liz Carlisle. She has jumped at the opportunity to deepen her knowledge about the history of California agriculture and advocate for reform, attending a lobby day for Assembly Bill 408 that promotes Climate-resilient Farms, Sustainable Healthy Food Access, and Farmworker Protection. She is eager to further her skills in GIS and coding languages through the Equitable Agriculture Internship to support regional food systems and implement climate-smart farming practices. Upon completing her Bachelor’s degree, she intends to pursue work advocating for local, regenerative, and autonomous food systems that foster community economies and provide good food for all people.
