Jared Umphress is a rising sophomore at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he is pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies (BS). He has had experience working in agriculture whether it be in his own garden, working at a plant nursery, regenerative farm in Plymouth CA. He has also participated in research at UC Davis in Plant Ecology, looking at how climate change would affect the physiology of Native versus Non Native Plant species. Through his Spanish speaking background Jared has been able to more effectively communicate across language barriers on the farms he has worked on. Jared plans on exploring the Agricultural field or Environmental Management that looks at different approaches to land usage. He is particularly interested in how we may develop systems that address the needs of humans while maintaining the integrity of the environment. He plans on working after undergraduate studies or pursuing a master's degree in graduate school.
